The DreamSpinner™95 engine has two versions: Basic and Advanced. The DreamSpinner™2000 is available only in the basic version at the moment. The Basic version is for the Beginner to Intermediate DreamWorker, who has an interest in learning what their dreams can reveal, but is not particularly interested in every detail or in research. It for their own personal interest. The Advanced version is for long term Dream Journalists and Dream Researchers. The following two lists give some common traits of dreamers who should use each product.
Users of the Basic Version:
- Sometimes record their dreams, especially those of strong imagery.
- Are interested in specific symbols.
- Have fun learning about their personal dream imagery.
- Don't want the process to be time consuming.
Users of The Advanced Version:
- Are interested in patterns in dreams.
- Want detail and depth of information.
- Are interested in the study of dreams as well as their own personal dream study.
- Want to measure dreams of different people with each other.
- Want to measure their own dream series over time.
- Need a way to quantify their dream information in order to create reports, articles, or documentation of dream phenomenon.
Both versions of DreamSpinner™ take advantage of the Spinner Text Analysis Engine™ to provide the following functionality:
- Storage for an unlimited number of dreams.
- Easy access to dreams by date and title.
- A DreamWork Window where insights and thoughts are typed and then linked to specific dreams and worklets. You can also do Dream Dialoguing, Dream Questions, and other "Right Brain" DreamWork approaches in this window.
- Create Dream Sets. (Example: Call up all dreams which have the concept Father in them)
- Show word frequency counts for the Dream Sets. (Example: Show all emotions in frequency order in the Father Dream Set.)
- A Journal Window to keep track of events as they happen in daily life. This is a great way to keep track of daily residue, coincidences, and prophetic dreams.
- A Poetry Window where you can enlarge upon the dream in the language of poetry.
- A Knowledge Base Window. You store information about metaphor meaning from outside sources here. These can be linked to specific dreams and Worklets.
- Linking of dreams and worklets to create a continuity thread where you can keep track of your ongoing DreamWork on any given symbol or Dream Set.
- An Over 12,000 word dictionary with definitions already set up for your use. (It is easily changed by adding your own words or deleting those you have no use for. You may also edit the definitions easily.)
- Over 1,000 categories, also easily deleted, edited and added to.
- An impressive DreamLinking process which links words to categories and definitions. Do it once to a dream and you can keep coming back for more symbols to search. Today you might only be interested in the symbol Father, but next week you might want to examine "Water" or "Houses" or "Cats". You do not have to redo the DreamLinking process. All this and much more is stored ready for your use at the time you become interested in some new issue or concern.
- Examine Dream Sets over a timeline. Do the symbols change in meaning over time?
- Examine Dream Sets on specific special dates (all dreams on your birthday or the anniversary of an important event).
- Examine Dream Sets from specific time periods (perhaps only the dreams from 1997, or only in the month of May).
In addition, the Basic version provides:
- A faster DreamLinking process. Most frequent words (like prepositions and pronouns) are not linked, which speeds up the DreamLinking process considerably.
The Advanced version also provides:
- The Query Manager, which assists you in creating and keeping track of Dream Sets and Worklet sets.
- Boolean Logic operators with which you can dynamically modify Dream Sets.
- And
- Limit a Set. For example, find all dreams with the concepts Father AND Mother in them.
- Or
- Expand a Set. For example, find all dreams with Father in them OR with Mother in them.
- Not
- Invert a Set. For example, find all Dreams without Father in them.
- Near
- Limit a Set. For example, find all Dreams with the concepts Father and Mother NEAR each other. Also, the near operator can be modified to specify how near we want the things to be, and whether they must be in the same sentence.
- The ability to construct and save Composite Sets. Composite Sets are made up of other Sets (which may be Composite Sets or standard Worklet Sets), combined with boolean operators.
Examples:
- Find all dreams with Cars but NOT Trucks AND Speed words NEAR Color words.
{Cars AND NOT Trucks AND (Speed NEAR Color)}
- Find all dreams with Dark AND Woman AND Talking AND NOT Friendly Social Interactions NEAR Apprehension emotions.
{Dark AND Woman AND Talking AND NOT (Friendly Social Interactions NEAR Apprehension)}
- Find Related Form. This tool helps you find things you don't even know you are looking for! Place the dream you are interested about in the active DreamWindow. Click on Find Related, and DreamSpinner scores each dream with a number indicating how similar it is to the current dream (similar concepts, in similar quantities). Dreams high on this list are likely closely related to the dream under consideration.
DreamSpinner™ is a powerful and versatile tool which functions in both a Left Brain and a Right Brain way, using logic, calculation and content analysis to give information to feed the intuitive, creative processes, which sends you back with new questions to gather more information.
Researchers can choose to set up their DreamLinking process to different types of information scoring. One can score each word and examine those counts, or can score each occurrence (like the Hall/Van de Castle coding system). For example, in the sentence "The woman operator refused to help or assist me in any way," full word counts would count the word "Woman" and the word "operator". The Hall/Van de Castle coding system would code those two words as one event ("1OFA"), while DreamSpinner™ would mark it as one "woman" and one "operator". The same is true of "help" and "assist": The Hall/Van de Castle system would code them as one F4 (Friendly) Social Interaction, shereas DreamSpinner™ would by default treat them as two different words with slightly different meanings. Studies to determine how close the DreamSpinner numbers correlate with the norming information of the Hall/Van de Castle system are in progress.
